We asked Ai how much money is equal to that 1$ now: It's $6.19. WOW! Just a plain ol' Big Mac without fries or a soda cost more than that today, and it was less than 2 bucks back then.
How much is sobriety worth?
When you put $5.00 in the meeting basket, it's each group that decides by vote of home members what percentage of their collection is for them to buy books and medallions and other things like Coffee! We also decide what percentage goes to our Heartland Intergroup; and what percentage goes District; and what goes to World Services HQ. Please feel free to ask your group treasurer questions, and get involved in home group meetings.
No big outfits give money to AA or to groups. See the Traditions. We don't get subsidized by tax dollars. It's the little groups who pay it forward, and up the chain to support the entire global organization.

Heartland Intergroup has "Faithful Fiver" envelopes available for all of the groups. You can put your name on it, or remain anonymous, but this money goes directly to our Intergroup.
